Finding a new groomer can feel like a big deal, especially when your dog has their own quirks, preferences, or very strong opinions about grooming.


Kindred Canine offers one-on-one, kennel-free dog grooming in Arma, Kansas, with appointments built around the individual dog rather than a packed salon schedule. Before requesting your pup’s first appointment, here’s what you can expect and what I’ll need from you to get started.

Every new client request is personally reviewed before being accepted. I’ll look at your dog’s breed, coat, requested service, grooming history, and any behavioral or special-care information you provide to make sure Kindred Canine is a good fit and enough time is reserved.

Submitting a request does not automatically reserve an appointment. Once I’ve reviewed everything, you’ll receive confirmation or I’ll reach out if I need a little more information first.

IS KINDRED CANINE RIGHT FOR YOUR PUP?

Kindred Canine is intentionally different from a busy, traditional grooming salon. I work with one household at a time, without kennels, rotating groomers, or a room full of dogs waiting their turn.


That environment can be especially helpful for dogs who are easily overwhelmed, distracted, fearful, or simply do better with a quieter grooming experience. I’m happy to work with many anxious dogs and pups who need additional patience, breaks, modified techniques, or a little time to build trust.


Comfort comes before a perfect haircut here. I won’t force a dog through a groom simply to finish it. Sometimes that means changing the plan, accomplishing what we reasonably can that day, or working toward a larger goal over several appointments.


A Quick Note About Senior Pups

If your senior dog already has a groomer they know, trust, and are comfortable with, getting older alone isn't a reason I recommend changing groomers. Familiarity can be incredibly valuable as dogs age. Kindred Canine may be a good option for senior dogs who are already looking for a new groomer or whose changing needs require a different grooming environment.

CONSISTENCY MAKES A DIFFERENCE

Kindred Canine is built around ongoing grooming relationships rather than one-time appointments. New clients should be prepared to maintain a recurring grooming schedule of 8 weeks or less, depending on their dog’s coat, haircut, lifestyle, and individual grooming needs.


Some higher-maintenance coats or dogs who benefit from more frequent visits may require a shorter schedule. We’ll talk about what makes sense for your pup after I’ve had the opportunity to work with them and get to know their coat and grooming needs.


Regular appointments help keep coats manageable, prevent routine grooming needs from becoming bigger problems, and give dogs the opportunity to become familiar with me, the salon, and the grooming process. For nervous or inexperienced dogs especially, that consistency can be an important part of building trust.


Because appointment availability is intentionally limited, established clients reserve their appointments in advance. Once we’ve determined that Kindred Canine is a good fit, we’ll set up your pup’s recurring schedule so their future appointments are already taken care of.


HOW RECURRING BOOKING WORKS: Once your pup’s grooming schedule is established, appointments are reserved approximately 12 months in advance. When about six months of appointments remain, we’ll add the next six months so your pup keeps their regular spot. 

BEFORE YOUR FIRST VISIT

New clients will need to complete the required grooming agreements, provide current vaccination information, and take care of any required deposit before their first appointment. A card on file is also required for active clients.


Because Kindred Canine is a private, one-on-one grooming salon, appointment timing matters. Please arrive at your scheduled drop-off time and plan for prompt pickup once I let you know your pup is ready. This helps me keep the salon quiet and ensures each household receives the private appointment time reserved for them.

Generally, no. Dogs often behave differently when their person is nearby, and having you stay can make it harder for them to settle into the grooming process. Kindred Canine is a private, one-on-one salon, so your pup will have my full attention throughout their appointment. If there’s ever a situation where your presence would genuinely benefit your dog, we can discuss it ahead of time. 

Appointment length varies depending on your dog, their coat, the service being performed, and what they need from me that day. Because I groom one household at a time, I don’t rush dogs to stay on an assembly-line schedule. Some appointments move quickly, while others may need extra time, breaks, or a change of approach.

You don’t need to guess when to head back. I’ll send you a text approximately 30 minutes before your pup is finished so you have time to plan for pickup.

Absolutely. Kindred Canine reserves appointments for one household at a time, so dogs who live together can be scheduled together when appropriate. The amount of time needed will depend on the dogs and services requested, so be sure to include each pup when requesting your appointment. 

Absolutely, and the earlier we start, the better. I encourage new puppy owners to schedule their first grooming appointment as soon as they bring their puppy home. Ideally, I like to meet puppies by around 10 weeks old if their breeder hasn’t already been introducing them to regular grooming.


Those early appointments aren’t about creating a perfect haircut. They’re about teaching your puppy that bathing, drying, brushing, nail care, clippers, handling, and being on a grooming table are all normal parts of life. We introduce new experiences at a pace your puppy can manage and build from there.


Starting young and maintaining a consistent grooming schedule can make a huge difference as your puppy grows, especially for breeds that will require professional grooming throughout their life.


Puppies may begin visiting Kindred Canine once they meet my vaccination requirements.

Tell me about it. The more I know beforehand, the better I can prepare for your dog’s appointment. Please share known triggers, previous reactions, bite history, handling sensitivities, or techniques that have helped in the past. A difficult grooming history doesn’t automatically mean your dog isn’t a fit for Kindred Canine. It simply gives me valuable information for deciding how to approach their care safely and thoughtfully. 

Yes. Consultations are available and may be recommended or required for dogs with significant grooming anxiety, behavioral concerns, special handling needs, or other circumstances where meeting before the first groom would be helpful. A consultation gives your pup a chance to experience the salon without the pressure of completing a full groom and gives me an opportunity to learn more about them before we make a grooming plan. 

I accept cash, credit or debit cards, and checks. When I send your pickup message, you’ll also receive a secure payment link so you can take care of your balance right from your phone before you arrive. Prefer to pay at pickup instead? That’s perfectly fine too. Payment is due at the time of service.
